Songs for You singing sessions are starting in May in Stafford and Cannock.
These friendly singing sessions offer service users living well with dementia, their carers and older adults, the chance to meet, socialise and engage in an activity with their partners or loved ones.
Songs for You is led by the Arts for Health team at South Staffordshire and Shropshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, and sessions are delivered by professional singing practitioner Gillie Nicholls.
Participants can have a good natter, a cup of tea and a piece of cake and take part in singing songs ranging from Beatles, Elvis and Sinatra numbers to songs dating back to the 30’s and 40’s.
Arts for Health project lead Helen Wilson says “Songs for You sessions help people reconnect and enjoy having quality time together. Singing is a positive and evocative tool helping people with dementia to rekindle memories through recalled songs and lyrics. The sessions help reduce isolation and enable people to concentrate on what sufferers ‘still have’, not what they have lost.”
Sessions start at Walton Village Hall, Stafford at 1.30 – 2.30pm on Monday 8th May and at St Barnabas Community Church Hall at 1.30 – 2.30pm on Tuesday 9th May 2017.
We are always on the lookout for volunteers to support us in delivering this valued and rewarding community project. Please do get in touch if you would like to help.
