Referral Process
We accept referrals from General Practitioners, Obstetricians, Consultant Psychiatrists and Community Mental Health Nurses. Referrals from Midwives, Health Visitors, Social Workers are accepted with the agreement of the General Practitioner.Referrals for women from 20 weeks pregnant are accepted and up to six months postnatal. We do not accept community crisis referrals, as we are a tertiary service.A decision will then be made as to both the appropriateness of the referral and, if accepted, the degree of urgency. A letter will then be sent to the individual asking them to contact our service to arrange an appointment that is convenient to them. An assessment is then conducted by one of our senior clinicians. Every effort is made to ensure that patients are seen for assessment within 11 weeks of receiving a referral. If the referral received meets criteria for an urgent assessment, the individual will be assessed within two weeks.A comprehensive service information/referral pack is available for clinicians upon request.
