Working here ... a senior nurse manager
Angie was named NHS Inspirational Leader of the Year in 2014, she says,
“When I left school I became a care assistant in a care home before joining one of the first Project 2000 nurse training courses. After qualifying I applied for a junior staff nurse post in one of the Trust’s mental health inpatient wards for older adults. I was absolutely sure I wanted to stay in older adult mental health even though my training had taken me to various different clinical areas. I worked my way up to ward sister and then had the opportunity to become team leader for a Community Mental Health Team. The Trust supported me to complete a BSc Hons Degree and gain managerial experience, as well as a non medical prescribing qualification. I was appointed to an Advanced Nurse Practitioner role in dementia services, a position I still hold, and led on developing services across South Staffordshire. At this time I was named NHS Inspirational Leader of the Year”.
